The Slovak National Theatre premiered Verdi's opera Macbeth featuring internationally recognised tenor Dalibor Jenis and soprano Adriana Kohútková. The Divadlo Andreja Bagara or the Andrej Bagar Theatre in Nitra, western Slovakia, has premiered a war time drama by Slovak playwright Ivan Bukovčan. The Kým kohút nezaspieva piece is recognised in Slovakia mainly thanks to a successful film shot in 1972. And the Slovenské komorné divadlo Martin, north central Slovakia, opened the year 2017 with the premiere of the drama based on oral history book by Belarussian Nobel prize winning author Svetlana Alexijevič. The play presents the feelings of women who were actively involved in fighting during the WWII.
