Far ahead of the moment when the old synagogue in Bardejov became the best restoration and renovation project in Slovakia for the year 2017, I visited the place and focused on a piece of the untouched original line of wall painting in the axis of its central hall. My guide, Peter Hudák, an associate of the Bardejov Jewish preservation committee wants the sanctuary back with eternal light and the arc for Torah scrolls to be fully restored. Restorers awarded by international experts point at the precious traces of the story behind the arc having been removed that would be destroyed by a non-expert intervention. While these opinions differ, tourists already keep on visiting this place. Do they mind the partly untouched central line left in the restored synagogue?
