Loss in literary criticism

One of the representatives of classical academic Slovak literary criticism, Vladimír Petrík, died November 19, at the age of 88. In the spring of 2017, he was quoted stating that: „I feel uneasy with contemporary Slovak literature. ... Literature used to speak about the substantial facts of our reality. Contemporary authors seem to fear having a complex concept of „reality and being a human being," as if literature gave up on its cognitive function which we found to be one of its key roles." The burial ceremony of the highly valued critic was held in Bratislava, November 24.
