Murder and art

The murder of investigative journalist Ján Kucian and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová and subsequent revelations as to links between top state officials and the Italian mafia stirred the society and led to the largest public gatherings in Slovakia since the Velvet revolution in November 1989. The tragedy of the slain couple troubled Slovak society, including artists who also felt the urge to express their outrage, disgust or sympathy. They not only spoke at public meetings but also created artworks inspired by and related to the death of the two young people.
