A series of public readings of Slovak books in translation started on Tuesday, 22nd October, in Manchester as part of the "Raising the Velvet Curtain" event marking the 30 years since the Velvet Revolution in former Czechoslovakia. Big love by Balla, Bellevue by the 2019 European Union Prize for literature winner Ivana Dobrakovová and Night circus and other stories by Uršuľa Kovalyk will also be presented on Thursday, 24th October in Cambridge. The tour will end on the 25th October in the British Library in London. Nevertheless, the "Raising the Velvet Curtain" event will continue in November with theatre performances, discussions with filmmakers as well as a conference on Slovak literature after 1989.
