Janka Guzová

Janka Guzová

Janka Guzova was a pioneer of promoting Slovak folklore in radio in an authentic way. In the year 1949, she became the first ever folk music director at the Bratislava studio of Czechoslovak Radio. In order to honor her in saving such cultural heritage for the future, Slovak Radio now runs a competition for young folk singers. Every second year, the winner receives the Janka Guzova award. On the occasion of its jubilee 10th annual in 2016 as well as on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the start of radio broadcasting in our country, we bring you an interview with the daughter of this folk music diva - Želmíra Becková Kucharovic.
