Occupation of South Ossetia act of aggression, says President

The situation on the Georgian border and in its breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia isn't completely tranquil, with Slovak representatives of the EU monitoring mission registering isolated incidents, TASR learnt on Tuesday. Slovak President Andrej Kiska, who came to Georgia for an official visit, was briefed by the mission administration about the current situation prevailing in the region, which seceded from Georgia following a short war with Russia in 2008. "I went to see the border artificially created by the Russians after they chose to occupy a portion of Georgian territory in South Ossetia. They built a barbed wire fence and separated people. We maintain a clear stance that any such violation of territory is an act of aggression. It's an occupation", said Kiska, adding, "It's necessary to realise what Russia is capable of doing to its neighbour". In 2008, Georgia and Russia found themselves in a five-day war that ended with declarations of independence by South Ossetia and Abkhazia. South Ossetia is preparing a referendum on joining Russia, but the plebiscite was recently postponed until 2017.
