Slovakia to host summit of EU parliamentary chairs

Slovakia will host a summit of EU parliamentary chairpersons plus European Parliament Chairman Martin Schulz in Bratislava between October 6-7, according to TASR. As many as 21 EU parliamentary chairs, including the Slovak one, and the EP chairman have so far confirmed their participation on an event organised by Slovak Parliamentary Chairman Andrej Danko, who would like to present Slovakia as a country that brings nations together. "The summit of EU parliamentary chairpersons will present Slovakia as a cosmopolitan country that has been bringing not only nations together ... but is also proud of its people and its culture," said Danko's spokesperson Eva Kliská. Kliská reported that Slovakia will welcome the chairpersons of parliaments from such countries as the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Belgium, Estonia, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Sweden as well as Malta that will succeed Slovakia in the Presidency of the Council of the EU. Most of them will arrive on Thursday to attend a gala dinner at Bratislava castle. The castle will be lit up in the colours of flags and national symbols of EU-member states. The second part of the summit will focus on challenges the EU is currently facing. "Some of them, such as security, stability, roles of national parliaments and social securities of our citizens, will be discussed during the joint session on Friday,' said Danko.
