We can't discuss security only when it suits us, says President

Providing security for Slovak citizens is the state's most important task and it shouldn't be invoked only when it suits our interests, but instead kept in mind also to meet Slovakia's commitments towards its allies in NATO and the Slovak Armed Forces, President Andrej Kiska said during his visit to the Ground Forces Command of the Slovak Armed Forces in Trenčín on Tuesday. "Even today, after I received our Armed Forces operation report, I had to conclude that our military is shockingly underfinanced. This is a long-term problem; there are many machines older than me still in use, there's a great number of obsolete equipment," said the President. Kiska pointed out that the Government made a commitment at the NATO summit in Wales to bolster the military's budget to 1.6 percent of GDP by 2020 and Kiska expects Slovakia as a responsible ally to make good on its promise.
