Fico opposed to EU sanctions against Moscow

Sanctions imposed against Russia have failed to modify Moscow's behaviour toward Ukraine, Prime Minister Robert Fico told a session of the parliamentary European affairs committee. "Both states have to meet objectives stemming from the Minsk accords. The black and white view is dangerous and wrong. I will not go against the unity of the EU. But I will fight for our own interests." Fico said.

According to Fico, Russia has its own problem with Ukraine. He added Bratislava openly admitted that international law was breached there. However, he said he could not understand why Slovakia has to accept that sanctions against Russia are damaging for the Slovak economy and that bilateral trade with Russia has deteriorated. "Let's stick to our own truth and own perspective," he noted.
