PM Fico rejects sale of Bratislava airport

The government is interested in cooperating with foreign partners to develop Bratislava Airport but the airport must not be sold, Prime Minister Robert Fico told TASR last weekend. "I reject any notion of privatising Bratislava Airport," said Fico. The premier reminded reporters that one of the first actions of his first government in 2006 was to scrap the privatisation of the airport planned by the previous government of Mikuláš Dzurinda. The airport was then allowed to develop on its own and it has shown since then that the state is also able to increase the number of passengers, the PM argued. At the same time he conceded that there is still quite a lot to develop at Bratislava Airport and he would not rule out cooperation with foreign partners. "However, the state mustn't lose control of Bratislava Airport," was the PM's final point.
