People who work or want to work will be the centre of the Government's attention; stated Prime Minister Robert Fico on Wednesday (Smer-SD) after the Cabinet approved an amendment to the law on employment services. "However, we won't support and we won't be interested in people who abuse the welfare system," said Fico, adding that there are more and more cases of abuse in the system. The bill coming from the Labour Ministry is aimed at increasing unemployed people's motivation to find work. According to the ministry, the proposed measures should prevent the concealment of illegal work and close loopholes used to exploit benefits meant for jobseekers. For example, if an unemployed person repeatedly prematurely quits a job set up by a labour office within the first month, they will not be able to claim jobseekers' benefits for six months.
