More than one million vehicles were produced in Slovakia last year, with the share of car production in total industrial output in Slovakia reaching 44 percent and with the automotive industry contributing 35 percent of Slovakia's total industrial exports. Representatives of the Slovak Automotive Industry Association (ZAP) informed of these figures. According to ZAP President Juraj Sinay, 2016 was a record year for the sector as the factories of KIA Motors, Peugeot Citroen, and Volkswagen Slovakia produced more than 1.04 million cars.
