President: Slovak military due for substantial modernization

The Slovak military is obsolete in many regards and needs substantial modernisation, said Slovak President Andrej Kiska after visiting the M.R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy in Liptovský Mikuláš (Žilina region) on Thursday. "On the one hand, we are justifiably proud of the results and quality of our graduates, but on the other, we are confronted at the academy and in the military as a whole with the need to modernise equipment, as some things haven't changed in 40 years," said the head of state. Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said that the provision of funding for the Armed Forces with a view to modernisation and training must be aligned with the systematic allocations of funds and the ministry's long-term plans.
