Government approves changes to justice system

On Wednesday, the governing cabinet approved an amendment to the act on judges, associate judges, as well as amendments to codices for judges, prepared by the Justice Ministry. The changes introduce the evaluation of judges' work by special committees, new rules for the process of selecting new judges, and a more effective punishment system for judges. The overall goal of this reform is to increase the effectiveness of the justice system and the improvement of law enforcement. Justice Minister Lucia Žitňanská also intends to speed up the selection process for aspiring judges, from the current nine to twelve months, to only two months. These changes should be in force as of July this year, wrote TASR.
