Slovakia was listed in 40th place in the ranking of the happiest countries in the world, compiled by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) at the request of the United Nations, reported TASR on Monday. Norway was the first country according to the ranking, followed by Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Finland, Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Sweden. The USA was in 14th place, Germany in 16th, Great Britain in 19th and France in 31st place. Slovakia's closest neighbour, the Czech Republic, was listed 17 places higher, in 23rdCountries in sub-Saharan Africa were at the bottom on the list. Syria and Yemen, with ongoing war conflicts taking place in the countries, are the two least happy countries in the world. As President of the SDSN, Jeffrey Sachs explained happy countries are those with a healthy balance between material welfare, a high level of trust in society, government and a low indicator of inequality.
