Revoking amnesties to be discussed next week

Parliament will discuss the coalition proposal for revoking the so-called Mečiar amnesties on Tuesday next week. The MPs agreed on this during the session that started in the morning today. The opposition will support the coalition suggestions under five conditions, with the first being that the coalition has to secure that the abduction of the son of the then president Kováč and the murder of the witness Róbert Remiáš will not be time-barred. The second condition is the mutual agreement on who will represent the Parliament in this case at the Constitutional court. Next, the opposition requires the revoking of president Kováč's pardon bill, not only regarding his son, but also for others involved in the so-called Technopol case. Moreover, the Constitutional Court should not act ex officio but only in the case that 30 MPs will address it. The coalition also calls for the president and the government to be a subsidiary participant. The opposition still refuses the governmental proposal for adopting the motion via a fast-track procedure. Despite this fact the opposition claims that coalition has preliminary okayed four of the five conditions.
