Foreign Affairs Minister on working visit to New York & Washington

Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Miroslav Lajčák is taking part in a meeting with representatives of 68 countries on Wednesday as part of the global coalition against the so-called Islamic State. The meeting was arranged by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and aims to decide the remaining steps needed to defeat the terrorist organisation. The Islamic State has been rapidly losing ground in both Iraq and Syria, through the help of three separate forces backed by the US, Turkey and Russia, which are now advancing on the group's stronghold of Raqqa, Syria. Discussions today will also aim at how to help the devastated Iraqi city of Mosul rebuild and methods to combat Islamic State operations in Libya and beyond. On Thursday, Lajčák will move to New York for a UN meeting focusing on climate change.
