Slovakia was self-sufficient in its production of eggs at a level of 107 percent in 2016, whereas the figure stood at 104.3 percent the year before, according to TASR press agency quoting Ladislav Birčák, director of the company Novogal. According to Birčák, the boost in self-sufficiency was accomplished via increasing the number of hens by approximately 350,000. "Stated in practical terms, that [extra] 7 percent of Slovak egg production goes for exports," he said. The country that receives the most eggs from Slovakia is the Czech Republic, followed by Hungary. "Neither Slovakia, nor any other neighbouring country exports any eggs to Poland. Only Polish eggs can be procured in Poland," noted Birčák.
