Wind alerts issued in northern Central Slovakia

Slovak hydro-metrological institute has issued a second degree wind alert for numerous districts in northern and central Slovakia for Wednesday and Thursday. Moreover, avalanche warnings were issued for mountainous areas. On Tuesday, more than 30,000 locations have experienced power blackouts for more than three minutes in the wake of heavy snowstorms hitting the north and centre of Slovakia, informed the Central Slovak Electric Distribution company's press department on Tuesday. As TASR reported, power failures occurred mostly due to trees falling on power lines. The distribution company managed to address the bulk of the failures by rerouting electricity and supplying consumers via undamaged branches of the distribution grid. By 3PM the number of consumers cut off from grid supply had been whittled down to 1,500, wrote TASR.
