Slovak to head UN Economic Commission for Europe

Slovakia's Permanent Representative to the International Organisations in Vienna, Oľga Algayerová, has been appointed to the role of Executive Secretary of the Geneva-based United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), reported the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday. Algayerová was appointed to the position by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. "This shows the quality and maturity of Slovak diplomacy, which is recognised abroad and I'm proud that a Slovak citizen has been appointed to this senior position for the third time now," said Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák. The ministry also noted Algayerova's career of over 20 years in foreign trade. The ECE is one of the UN's five regional commissions focused on regional economic development.
