The Slovak Parliament on Tuesday pledged its readiness to increase the country's budgetary expenditures towards defence so that they're equivalent to 1.6 percent of Slovakia's GDP by 2020. This is according to a declaration on the need to support Slovakia's defence which the House approved on Tuesday. A total of 126 legislators endorsed the document. According to the declaration, much like its allies in the EU and NATO, Slovakia is finding itself in an increasingly unpredictable security environment that requires extra attention on the part of all of the country's security forces. The declaration also notes new threats, an increase in extremism, and migratory pressures. The primary role of a state and its senior representatives is to ensure maximum security for its citizens. This is preconditioned by stable and predictable expenses towards defence, reads the document.
