Slovak school teachers will participate in educational seminars on the correct teaching of the Holocaust. This was agreed upon by Minister of Education Peter Plavčan during a visit to Israel with representatives of Yad Vashem, Israel's official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. Plavčan signed a joint statement with Yad Vashem representatives, stating that it is in line with the government's commitment to ensure that the education of Slovak children leads to the effective prevention of extremism, anti-Semitism, racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance. "It is very important especially in these days, when we're witnessing the increasing trend of the spread of extremist ideas and movements in Slovakia. Our goal is to educate young people, to support their critical thinking and to help them recognise deception involving historical events, "said Plavčan, adding that it is necessary to learn from history and to speak openly about the Holocaust.
