Judicial Council to elect New Chair on July 11

The Judicial Council is due to meet on July 11 for the first session of its fourth term, with electing the chair and vice-chair on the agenda, council doyen Jan Havlat announced on Monday. Havlat will serve as interim head of the Judicial Council after current chair Jana Bajánková's term expires this Thursday. The Judicial Council has been experiencing major personnel changes this year, with eight new representative judges elected in May.. Apart from that, the Government should nominate two new figures in the autumn. Neither Bajánková, nor the current council vice-chairman Ján Vanko was allowed by the statutes to run again. An 18-member body, the Judicial Council features nine representatives of judges and three figures each nominated by Parliament, government and president.
