Hard new sanctions against North Korea were unanimously approved by the United Nations Security Council August 5, with Slovakia giving its full support. The sanctions, aimed at reducing North Korea's export revenue by around €1 billion, ban North Korea from exporting coal, iron, lead and seafood products outside its borders and are in response to two intercontinental ballistic missile tests carried out last month. The resolution also bans countries from issuing additional permits to North Korean labourers. Slovakia added its voice to the international community, urging Pyongyang to end its existing nuclear and ballistic missile development programs.
