A project aimed at kick-starting the economies of Slovakia's twelve least developed districts will be supported with financial help from the European Union. The Ministry of Economy has earmarked €50 million under the Research and Innovation Operational Program. The submission of applications for funding is to be electronic and should thus be less demanding in terms of administration than in the past. Successful applicants will be able to invest in machines, equipment, software or other long-term assets to increase competitiveness in their businesses, with the amount of aid per project reaching up to €1 million and 55% of the eligible costs. "We want to support new investments and creation of jobs where they are most needed. In regions with long-term high unemployment. The outcome will be a stronger regional and local economy and higher living standard of the people," informed Economy Minister Peter Žiga.
