Slovak army needs €6.5bn for modernisation

The Ministry of Defence has estimated the costs of the main modernisation projects of the Slovak army by 2030 to reach €6.5 billion, according to a proposal published on Tuesday. The long-term defence development plan is drafted on the assumption that Slovakia's obligation as a NATO member to allocate 2 percent of GDP to defence and from this money to earmark a fifth for modernisation, is fulfilled. MoD would like for example, by the end of 2024, to acquire 81 pieces of combat armoured vehicles. It also eyed 445 anti-tank systems, 14 multi-purpose tactical aircraft and two transport aircraft.
