President attacks extremists; urges voting in regional elections

The President of the Slovak Republic, Andrej Kiska, has urged people to get out and vote in the upcoming elections for new chairmen and members of the country's self-governing regions, which will take place on Saturday, November 4. In a social media post, he warned against the spread of 'evil in green shirts', hinting at members of the far-right party ĽSNS. "On Saturday, November 4, we will not only vote for eight cabinets, but also the deputies of our regional councils. The November elections will not only throw out the chairman of the fascist party from the seat of one region [far-right party leader Marian Kotleba is currently the head of the Banská Bystrica self-governing region], the danger is much wider and concerns all self-governing regions," wrote Kiska. The Head of State writes that it is not only Kotleba who is planning to retain his seat, but others with extreme views elsewhere, including fellow far-right party member Milan Uhrík, who is head of the Nitra region. "There are hundreds of candidates to vote for in eight regions ... Let's all vote," the president wrote.
