Speaker of Parliament Danko attends IPU Assembly

On Sunday, Slovak Speaker of Parliament Andrej Danko and his entourage began their visit to St. Petersburg, Russia. As TASR wrote, the Slovak delegation is scheduled to take part in the annual assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The election of IPU's new president and vice-presidents for the upcoming period (2017-20) and a discussion on supporting cultural pluralism and peace through an inter-religious and inter-ethnic dialogue is high on the agenda of the session, said Parliament's communications office director Zuzana Čižmáriková. Representatives of parliaments from all over the world will probably also discuss the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar and the domestic political situation in Venezuela. The IPU with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, is the oldest international political organisation in the world. With 173 national parliaments as members it has permanent observer status at the United Nations General Assembly.
