The Constitutional Court says President breached judges’ rights

The Slovak President, Andrej Kiska, will have to appoint candidates whom he had previously refused to three unoccupied positions of constitutional judges, according to adecision of the Constitutional Court issued on Wednesday. It decided that the fundamental rights of a group of candidates for the posts of constitutional judges to access to elected and other public functions under the same conditions were violated by the President by his decision not to appoint them. It annulled the President's decision and ordered him to appoint three judges from among the candidates nominated by Parliament. Kiska nominated only one of the eight proposed candidates in 2014 and 2016. He rejected the rest, arguing they did not meet the conditions associated with the post. President's office said it would react to the Court's decision after analyzing it in detail.
