President meets the new regional governors

President Andrej Kiska received the new regional governors on Thursday for a lunch in the Presidential Palace. The heads of the eight self-governing regions were elected on November 4. The regional governors include Juraj Droba (Bratislava region), Jozef Viskupič (Trnava region), Jaroslav Baška (Trenčín region), Milan Belica (Nitra region), Erika Jurinová (Žilina region), Ján Lunter (Banská Bystrica region), Milan Majerský (Prešov region) and Rastislav Trnka (Košice region). With the exception of Jaroslav Baška and Milan Belica, who held the position of governor before, the remaining six are new in the job. They will hold their posts for five years, and from 2022, governors will be only elected for four years again. Extending the election term will allow the country to hold regional and municipal elections at the same time.
