Czech president’s farewell to Slovakia

Incumbent Czech president Miloš Zeman paid his last official visit to Slovakia. "There are no other two countries that could be so close to each other as Slovakia and the Czech Republic," said Andrej Kiska. The Czech Republic is Slovakia's second largest economic partner with a turnover of EUR 15 billion. The Czech president Miloš Zeman thanked the Slovak president for the farewell visit which has been a tradition for several decades. As he said, proof of the great co-operation between the two nations is the fact that the Slovak native Andrej Babiš has just appointed to the post of Czech Prime Minister. Presidents also spoke about their different stances regarding foreign politics. According to Andrej Kiska, the only difference is in adopting the euro as the national currency. "I am a EURO federalist," responded the Czech president. Miloš Zeman added: "Regarding the statement by Martin Schulz, nobody did more harm to the idea of EU federation than this SPD leader." Together with his counterpart Andrej Kiska, they laid wreaths at the memorial to Czechoslovak statehood as well as at the memorial to Milan Rastislav Štefánik.
