Slovak MEPs for fight against Russian propaganda

Five out of Slovakia's 13 MEPs have signed a joint call to form a common EU strategy to combat disinformation and propaganda spread from Russia, TASR learnt on Thursday. "We see Russia behind the financing of many extremist movements and radical political parties that openly question democratic principles in the EU. This trend appears to be especially dangerous in election processes and is becoming a serious security risk for many EU countries, including Slovakia," stated the Slovak MEPs. The Slovak MEPs are also concerned about the statements and public appearances of certain Slovak governing politicians, who are participating in the spreading of disinformation and Russian propaganda, "thereby threatening our security and weakening Slovakia's credibility within the EU". The MEPs discussed the impact of Russian propaganda on EU-member states with EU Commissioner for Security Union Julian King at their plenary session in Strasbourg on Wednesday (January 17).
