On Monday, Russian-born Slovak biathlete Anastasia Kuzmina won a silver medal, the first for Slovakia at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. After failing to defend her gold from Sochi 2014 in the 7,5 kilometre sprint on Saturday, Kuzmina succeeded in the 10 kilometre pursuit. She was leading in the middle of the race thanks to her great skiing form, however subsequently missed three shots and was defeated by German Laura Dahlmeier who comfortably won. Kuzmina had to fight for the silver until the end with the French Anais Bescond.
