Protest against relocating Italian factory to Slovakia

The relocation of the Embraco factory would mean the loss of 497 jobs in Italy while diminishing unemployment in Eastern Slovakia. The Brazilian company Embraco, which is a unit of the US refrigerator and washing machine manufacturer Whirlpool, refuses to cancel its plans to relocate the factory to Spišská Nová Ves in Slovakia. The Italian Minister of Industry Carlo Calenda, visited Brussels on Tuesday to examine whether Slovakia is not violating the EU rules on state aid. The Slovak Economy Minister Peter Žiga rejects allegations of violating these rules. He stated that all past investments involving Embraco can be uphold.
