Prosecutor can inform on Kuciak case

Prosecutor-General Jaromír Čižnár at a press conference on Monday informed that the prosecutor from the Special Prosecutor's Office assigned to the case of the murders of journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová has been given free rein to inform the public about any potential progress. "He can hold a briefing on anything that can be released," stated Čižnár, adding that the investigation will be independent and smooth. According to Čižnár, initial mistakes slowed down the pace of the investigation, and he doesn't know why these mistakes occurred. He added that there are errors that are costly to redress, though. "Currently, we're facing mistakes that can be remedied, but it takes time. We could have been further ahead by now," said Čižnár about the investigation. Journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová were murdered on February 21, 2018 with shots fired from a 9mm pistol. According to the Special Prosecutor's Office, the way in which the murders were carried out indicate that they were committed by a hitman.
