Elderly care facility inspections called into question

Public Ombudswoman Maria Patakyová is examining the level at which the observance of human rights of Slovakia's elderly facilities are being monitored, TASR reported on Tuesday. According to her, the publicised case of the Iris private care provider for the elderly, where a man was posing as a doctor, demonstrates that such an initiative is justified. The ombudswoman pointed out that the information collected so far has shown that, for example, the Labour Ministry has checked on average only eight facilities over the past three years, which could be a direct consequence of the fact that the ministry has only five people available to carry out such inspections.
