Slovakia constantly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognised borders as well as the country's aspirations to join the EU and NATO, stated the Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry on Tuesday in connection with the tenth anniversary of the Russian-Georgian conflict. "We call on the Russian Government to meet the EU-mandated armistice terms set on August 12, 2008, to withdraw its armed forces from South Ossetia and Abkhazia and to stop preventing the EU monitoring mission and humanitarian organisations from entering these Georgian areas," reads the ministry's press release. Georgia has been seeking to join the EU and NATO for several years, as the country views these institutions as a guarantee of protection against Russian aggression.
