"The government has a unique opportunity to strengthen the quality and independence of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic at a time of the people's deep distrust in the rule of law, but it appears the government will waste this chance," said Slovak President Andrej Kiska after his meeting with Justice Minister Gábor Gál on Wednesday. The minister does not want to give up and envisages a new bill for the selection procedure for judges at the Constitutional Court. Gál said: "I will try to enforce it. I think that although it is not such a big move as some people expected, even a small step is better, since nothing can be worse than the present state."
