President Andrej Kiska recalled judge Milan Jurko from his judicial post over corruption on Thursday. In March, the Supreme Court decided that the former judge of the Trebišov district court was guilty of accepting bribes and of misusing his powers as a public official. He was sentenced to six years in prison and had to pay a financial penalty worth €3,000. According to a prosecutor, in 2013 Jurko first accepted a hunting dagger worth €632 to approve a plea deal in a particular case. Later, he accepted a non-specified reward in order to decide on a financial penalty instead of another type of punishment. Finally, in the third case the judge took a bribe worth €1,500 to give a more lenient punishment.
