Slovakia supports Romania's accession to the Schengen area and into the OECD, as well as a proposal to increase the current contributions of individual member states to the EU's common budget, stated Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) on Tuesday after meeting Romanian President Klaus Iohannis during his working visit to Bucharest. "I agree with Romania's attitude that the European Union is facing additional new priorities and more demands are being placed on its future budget and multi-annual financial framework. Slovakia agrees with the proposal to increase the contributions of individual member states," he stated at a joint press conference at Cotroceni Palace, the official residence of the Romanian president. However, the level of these contributions must come from mutual agreement and consensus. Pellegrini highlighted Romania's ambition to continue discussing the EU budget and to reach an agreement in the talks despite the upcoming elections to the European Parliament.
