The Trade Union of Workers in Trade and Tourism sees negatively the prepared introduction of a special levy for retail chains amounting to 2.5 percent of their net turnover. According to the union's chair, Jozef Zadňan, the introduction of this law into practice may result in imports of cheaper and lower quality food from abroad, which could have a negative impact on the health of the low-income population. Moreover, unionists worry that the introduction of this measure will also have a negative impact on social dialogue, namely the salary growth in the trade sector, which will seriously affect the collective bargaining process. According to the Slovak National Party, which proposes this action, a special levy for retail chains should ensure funds for Slovak farmers and food producers.
