Opposition vs RTVS

The opposition is calling for the immediate cancellation of the employment contract with the head of news at Slovak Radio, Petra Stano Maťašovská. If she is not instantly fired, the opposition will consider further political steps. They are demanding her departure because of an internal document she sent to editors, requesting them to not cover in their reporting draft bills and amendments submitted by opposition MPs. She labelled their legislative proposals as "often unprofessionally prepared, non-systemic." Maťašovská has also forbidden the preparation of news summaries from reports of information published on Internet portals and other media. The public service broadcaster Radio and Television of Slovakia (RTVS) disagrees with the interpretation of the published material, "which is being taken out of context and does not correspond with the reality of the preparation and content of news broadcasts on the Slovak Radio." A spokeswoman for RTVS, Erika Rusnakova, said that the document had concerned only the broadcasting of short agency news which is also brief and "does not provide enough time to deal with the topic in detail". According to the Denník N daily, RTVS admitted that some parts of the document were not formulated suitably.
