On Thursday and Friday, Slovakia is symbolically taking on the torch of the presiding country of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) from Italy at the annual OSCE Ministerial Council in Milan, Italy. The main topics of the council are the conflict in Ukraine, the prevention of conflicts, respecting human rights and freedoms and cooperation with the Mediterranean countries. Slovakia's one year chairmanship of the world's largest security-oriented intergovernmental organization officially starts on January 1, 2019. The Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister, who handed his resignation to President Andrej Kiska last week, and whose future is still unclear, is also representing Slovakia in Milan.
