Former prosecutor-general Dobroslav Trnka (2004-2011) allegedly played to incumbent Prosecutor-General Jaromir Ciznar a portion of a recording with talks about sponsorship gifts for the largest coalition party Smer-SD. This happened back in either 2008 or 2009. Ciznar stated that he did not know at the time that the recording was part of the Gorilla scandal [named after an alleged leaked 2005-06 secret service wiretapping file on politicians, officials and business executives discussing kickbacks in return for procurement and privatisation contracts]. According to Ciznar, Trnka should have given the tape to the police. Frantisek Hatar served as a former personal secretary of Smer-SD chairman Robert Fico. In the past, he denied the information in the Gorilla file, according to which he was visiting a safehouse to meet with representatives of a financial group and discuss the deals in 2006. The file, leaked in December 2011, stirred up a round of public protests in the build-up to the early 2012 parliamentary election race.
