Slovak skier Petra Vlhová won the 2019 Giant Slalom World Championship in Are, Sweden, on Thursday, thus becoming the first alpine skier, male or female, to win a gold medal for Slovakia. Vlhova triumphed in the race with a lead of 0,14 seconds over German skier Viktoria Rebensburg, whereas the third place went to American Mikaela Shiffrin (+0.38s). This was a second medal for Vlhova in Are, as she had already taken the silver in the Alpine combined event.
