EU needs to define its relations with China

The EU needs to define its relations with China, said Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák after talks between foreign affairs ministers of EU-member countries and their Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Brussels on Monday. He added that from the viewpoint of Europeans there are matters in which the EU has good co-operation with China, which it needs to have, however there are also questions which both parties view differently. When asked by TASR press agency whether Wang Yi had lobbied on behalf of Chinese companies on the European market, where there's growing mistrust towards telecom giant Huawei, Lajčák confirmed that Wang Yi first of all stressed that the company is fully in private hands. "He ruled out that there would be a back door via which the Chinese government could gather data and information through this company," said Lajčák. According to him, Wang Yi asked the EU not to apply double standards, and to approach Huawei as it would approach any other foreign company.
