Pellegrini and Trump did not discuss Defence Cooperation Agreement

During their Friday meeting, Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini and US President Donald Trump did not address the Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA), said Pellegrini on Sunday. According to him, this topic should be discussed at an "expert level" and not between him and the president. "There is only little mention of possible agreements in our joint statement," stated Pellegrini, explaining that it is the Slovak Foreign Ministry's job to lead a professional discussion on the agreement with its US counterpart. According to him, if any agreement were about to be signed by Slovakia, it would be published. "No one will sign any agreement with any country that would undermine the sovereignty of our country," he said.

Pellegrini was pleased that he was able to explain to Trump how the Slovak economy would be impacted if the USA imposed customs duties on cars imported from the EU. "It was a new piece of information for President Trump that Slovakia is already producing 1.2 million vehicles [annually] and that the figure will increase to 1.4 million when Jaguar Land Rover also starts producing cars," said Pellegrini, adding that Trump realised that customs duties would impact both Germany and Slovakia.
