Andrej Kiska bids farewell to presidential foreign journeys

Slovak President Andrej Kiska attended a meeting with his Czech counterpart Milos Zeman at the Lany Chateau in the Czech Republic on Thursday. Kiska arrived in Lany as part of his farewell visit to the Czech Republic before the end of his tenure. "I'll miss you, Andrej," Zeman told Kiska, stressing that despite their occasional differences of opinion, he and the outgoing Slovak president had trusted and had not opposed each other. At the meeting, the media asked Kiska about the Slovak EU Commission Vice-president Maros Sefcovic's bid for a senior post in the next Commission. "I believe - and I also stated it before the presidential election that Mr. Sefcovic is an experienced diplomat and I believe that the Visegrad Four should support his effort," said Kiska meaning support not only from Slovakia but also the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland. His successor Zuzana Caputova will become Slovak President on June 15. Her first foreign trip that is set to take place on June 20 will be to the Czech Republic. Both Kiska and Caputova follow the tradition, according to which the first and last foreign journey of Czech and Slovak presidents takes them to the other of the successor countries of former Czechoslovakia.
