Parliament Okays continued presence of troops in Baltic region

Slovak troops will continue to serve as part of the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence stationed in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. Parliament greenlighted a proposal to that effect sponsored by the Defence Ministry on Thursday. Despatching the soldiers to the Baltic region demonstrates the unity of NATO and ensures the inter-operability of the armed forces, according to the ministry. One of the crucial elements of the alliance defence strategy is deterrence, anchored in the Readiness Action Plan approved at the NATO summit in Wales in 2014. The aim is to ensure NATO readiness for a prompt and efficient response to new security threats from both the east and south, added the ministry.
